What Is A High Voltage Power Reactor?

A High Voltage Power Reactor is a series-connected inductive device typically rated for systems from 3.3kV up to 63kV (custom designs available beyond this range). Installed in series with the power system, it introduces controlled inductive reactance to limit short-circuit and inrush current, suppress voltage distortion, and improve overall power quality — ensuring safe, stable operation of substations, industrial power networks, and electric railway systems even under fault or high-harmonic conditions.

Core Functions of a High Voltage Power Reactor

FunctionsDescription
Short-Circuit Current LimitingRestricts fault current when a short circuit occurs, protecting switchgear, transformers, and cables from thermal and mechanical damage.
Voltage Distortion EliminationSuppresses waveform distortion in the HV network, improving overall power quality and equipment compatibility.
Harmonic & Ripple FilteringWorks in series with capacitor banks or rectifier systems to filter harmonic and ripple currents, protecting sensitive downstream loads.
System Stability & SafetyMaintains stable operation of the power system under transient disturbances, reducing the risk of cascading faults.
Inrush Current SuppressionLimits the surge current generated during switching operations of capacitor banks, transformers, or feeders.
Equipment Protection & Life ExtensionReduces electrodynamic and thermal stress on transformers, switchgear, and cabling, extending the service life of the entire power system.

Industry Applications

Where Our High Voltage Power Reactor Proven Results

A High Voltage Power Reactor is not a one-size-fits-all device. Below are typical scenarios where our reactor reduces reactive energy penalties, improves voltage stability, and lowers harmonic distortion.

Why Choose ZHIMING's High Voltage Power Reactor?

Epoxy Resin Cast Coil for Superior Reliability

Our high voltage power reactor coils are cast in epoxy resin, delivering flame-retardant, self-extinguishing performance along with high mechanical strength. This construction gives the reactor an excellent short-circuit withstand level and low partial discharge, ensuring long-term reliability even under demanding fault conditions.

Advanced Dry-Type Core Technology

Using proven dry-type reactor core production technology, our high voltage power reactors achieve low vibration, low noise, low magnetic leakage, and minimal electromagnetic interference — making them ideal for installations near sensitive equipment or in electromagnetic-immunity-critical environments.

Compact Structure & Space-Saving Installation

Optimized coil and core design results in a compact structure with a small footprint, reducing installation space requirements in substations, switchgear rooms, and industrial facilities where space is at a premium.

Maintenance-Free & Long Service Life

Built to operate reliably with no routine maintenance required, our high voltage power reactors are engineered for a long service life, reducing total cost of ownership across substations, electric railway systems, and industrial power networks.

Wide Industry Applicability

Suited for use in power system substations, electric railway, metallurgy, chemical, and petroleum industries — anywhere high flame-proof rating, strong electromagnetic immunity, or limited installation space is required, ZHIMING's high voltage power reactor delivers dependable current limiting and power quality protection.

A low voltage power capacitor is designed for systems ≤1kV (e.g., 400V industrial panels), while a high voltage power capacitor operates at 1kV to 35kV, typically used in utility substations or large MV motor compensation. Their internal dielectric, terminal insulation, and discharge resistors differ accordingly.

You need three pieces of data:

Average power factor (from utility bill)

Target power factor (usually 0.95–0.98)

Monthly active energy (kWh) and reactive energy (kVARh)

Use the formula: Required kVAR = Active Power (kW) × (tanφ₁ – tanφ₂). Or simply send us 30 days of load data – we will calculate it for free.

Standard capacitors may overheat under harmonics. You need a detuned power factor correction capacitor with a series reactor (typically 7% or 14%). Our harmonic‑rated series is marked “HD” and includes over‑temperature protection.

Our power capacitor units are designed for 120,000–150,000 hours (over 15 years) at rated voltage and ≤45°C ambient. End‑of‑life signs include capacitance loss >10% or visible bulging – we offer free capacitance testing kits for bulk orders.

Yes. Custom voltages (e.g., 480V, 525V, 690V) and non‑standard kVAR steps are available with a minimum order quantity. Contact us with your specification sheet for a fast quotation.
